We established SpiDiv in 2024, according to the TreeDiv (Tree Diversity Network) designs. In our specific plots, we focus on the effect of spiders (Spi) along with diversity (Div) on the forest functioning. Over the years, we will focus on the effect of tree species diversity and spiders on productivity, above and belowground processes.
The experiment consists of 2 blocks that contain 37 plots each. Mono-, three- and six-species combinations were planted, and two control plots without trees were added to each block. The plots are randomly distributed within each block. In a plot, 30 trees were planted on rows (1 m between rows, 0.8 m between trees in a row, following the design of Kreinitz experiment); the different species were distributed randomly within a plot.
Species planted: Quercus rubea, Tilia cordata, Pinus sylvestris, Fagus sylvaticus, Acer platanoides, Carpinus betulus, Acer platanoides
Planting date: spring 2024
