Great tit project 2025

This long-term project on great tits in the nest boxes of Branišov Forest is one of our four major research efforts this year. While we’re keeping the details under wraps for now, the study broadly explores how bird health and fitness relate to ecological and biological factors. I’m especially grateful to have a dedicated team making this work possible – Inga Freiberga and Andrea Bartošová, who manage nearly all daily operations, working through weekends and even in the rain. We’ve also had valuable support from Honza Kollross and Kryštof Korejs, helping with insect and bird catching, respectively. It’s a pleasure to be running this large project in collaboration with Kasun Bodawatta, who secures laboraotry work and with assitance of David Diez-Mendez, who assited greately with the development of the actual protocol.

Every day, the girls set a small laboratory in the forest ans sample various things on the birds. For a week, our main collaborator – Kasun Bodawatta (in the middle) – joined the ladies in the forest, to oversee the experiment.
In the mean time, the birds grow happily, and we finalize also other aspects of the surveys
